My 7B class went to FRIM trip last Wednesday and Thursday. We went there because our teachers wanted us to study outside of class and not only sitting in class, take notes and doing homework. We stayed 2 days 1 night in the forest. They wanted us to live in a natural environment for a while. Also, we study how forest look like and how long it have been created in Malaysia. Our teachers taught us how to find insects, writing in the rainforest, measure heights of the tree without climb up in a tree. We just bring our class in to the nature!
On the first day in FRIM, Ms.Lemos (my math teacher) gave us a packet. In the packet, they typed all our schedule and what we are going to do in the next day and today. Mr.Walsh divided our 7B class to four group (1-4) depended on our tent mates. I was in-group 2. When each student have a group then each group will go to their teacher that teach and lead the activities we will do. My group was with Mr.Walsh first. We studied about insects and forest. We got a chance to find insects under the woods, tree and how they do, do they have any special plants. In the end of the class, our group found a giant group of ants carry food to their nest. It was really interesting, it looks like there was thousand of ants helping each other to carry food that ten times bigger than them.
The next activity that our group had done is math with Ms.Lemos. She taught us how to measure tree without need to climb up to the top of the tree and then measure them. We used a math method in 8th grade to measure it. It was fun to use the math we never use in the forest!
After, we had lunch with the 7A class- the group that go first on Tuesday and Wednesday. I ate lunch my friends and ask them how was FRIM trip, what was they doing and stuff. They gave me advice when I doing the night walk, the bathroom and stuff.
The 3rd activity that my group enjoyed was writing, humanities with Mr.Peters. We had to separate from our friends to find a space that we can be alone. When I found a space that I liked, I sat down and felt the feeling that being alone in the rainforest. I sketched the space that I chose then wrote my feeling in the paper. During, I was writing, many bugs climbed up me make me shouted a small scream (no one could hear it). Beside the hot in Kuala Lumpur, in the rainforest the weather is perfect. It was sunny sometimes, but suddenly cool winds came and erase all the heat. After, I have done my writing; I ran over to my friends and chatted with them until Mr.Peters called us out.
The last activities in the morning my group done was with Mrs.Smith (our PE teacher). We went down to the stream down the rainforest to catch insects, fish, crab, and shrimps. All of us hurry to catch fish; they were so fast that we fall down in the water so many times. My group worked together perfectly, we always scream “FISHHHH CATCH IT! HURRY!”. We all wet after all but we had so much fun and laugh during it! Also, we catch a pretty good fish. We also play a game that we have to answer the questions, which group win will have a special price. My group won and the special price was candy from California! It was my favorite game ever!
At night, we had a night walk to see the animal and insects that was hiding in the morning, I was lost for a moment but lucky me I had Ameera- my friend, teacher and the Malaysian guide. I got wet because it rain during the walk. The rainforest was really pretty covered with tiny fireflies fly around a tiny light enough makes the rainforest light a little.
The next day, we went to the Canopy walk. It was really fun. We walked in the bridge made by wood. Sometimes, the bridge is kind of moving, I was scared but then I thought to my self do not look down! Finally, I finished my walk. It was cool; it was like u were flying in the middle of the rainforest.
I love FRIM! It was the best and fun trip ever!
